True wealth is
the measure of our gifts used, not saved.
Our ability to enhance God's reputation in the community through
acts of service and justice relies 100% upon the gracious givings of
our church family. Every Sunday during our worship service an
offering is collected for the work of the church in Belleville, and
around the world through The United Church of Canada's Mission and
Service Fund. Last year our church family help contribute to the 30
million dollar Mission and Service Fund work that helps folks in
need throughout God's creation. Did you know that your givings to
the church are tax dedicable and roughly every dollar you give
offers you 40 to 50 percent tax savings? For more information on
giving to church and receiving this tax savings advantage please
speak to our treasurer Jeff Gardner or Sandy in the office. Jeff
and Sandy are always happy to help folks get set up with envelopes
for giving on Sunday mornings.
Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR)
Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) has arrived. You are probably
knowledgeable about this concept and may already be using a similar
program to pay various expenses; fuel, electricity, taxes etc.
You can have an amount deducted monthly from your bank account which
will be credited to St. Matthew’s bank account. You can specify an
amount to General, Mission & Service or Other. “Other” will be used
for donations to the Dedicated Building Fund. PAR does not preclude
the need for special offerings such as Budget Booster, Easter,
Anniversary/Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Sharing, Memorial,
Benevolent, etc. You will still receive numbered envelopes
and/or receive special envelopes included with a pastoral or other
letter which can be used for these special donations. At the end of
the year a charitable receipt for Income Tax purposes will be issued
as in the past. There is a small administrative fee paid by St.
Matt’s to the United Church of Canada. The contributor receives full
credit for their contribution.
In determining your monthly givings, please remember that there will
only be twelve withdrawals during the year which is equivalent to
forty eight weeks. If you are a weekly contributor you have been
donating fifty two times a year. Calculate your total yearly
offering and divide by twelve to arrive at your monthly amount.
During the summer donations are reduced. People are at their
cottage, spend a Sunday at the beach, travel or don't attend worship
for some other reason. Whatever the reason our cash flow suffers.
The expenses don't change very much; the income does. We ask you to
consider using this program.
To participate in this program, please call the church office, (613)
967-1511. Sandy will explain what is required. Information
received by the 8th day of the month will be processed the same
month.
Planned Giving
Planned giving, very simply, is planning to make a gift. The most
common Planned Gift received by the church is a bequest. The tax
benefit from a bequest accrues to the donor’s estate.
There are many ways to make a gift to the church:
Wills and Bequests
Gift Annuities
Gift of Life Insurance
Charitable Remainder Trusts
Gifts of Residual Interest
Cash Gifts and Interest-Free Loans
Gifts of Listed Securities.
If you want information on any of the above gifts, please contact
the church office.
